The weekend of the 25th - 27th Jan 2013 saw the Great Central Railway hold their Winter Steam Gala. Having never been to such an event before (and also having bugger all else to do) Laurie Hughes and I went along.
I still can't come to terms with being a train spotter but steam trains in the snow was something special.
Thanks to everyone who made us feel welcome, though I have no idea what any of you were talking about most of the time.
Shots from the day are on the website.

30th January 2012
Went Owl watching today with my Old mate Glen Pardoe. I left Bristol this morning in a Blizzard and headed north. Fortunately the weather was better (but not as good as the forecast) where the owls were.
I forgot my lunch, broke the clamp on my lens and then sat in a traffic jam for two hours on the way home. I've had better days but the owls were good to see and I've hopefully got some half decent shots.
They'll be in the wildlife section (obviously) when I get round to posting them.

27th January 2012
Had a bit of a strange day today. I spent the day at work even though it was my day off. I went in to photograph a family of Field Mice who have made their home in a bank outside the window of a basement office, ironically in the BBC's Natural History Dept.

6th January 2012
Couldn't sleep last night, so when at 4am I looked out of the bedroom window and saw that the sky was crystal clear, I got up and headed out with my camera. I finished up in Lyme Regis to capture the sun rising over the Cobb. Had really enjoyable day despite getting up at an ungodly hour!

9th December 2011 - Finally a Kingfisher
Decided to give the Kingfisher shot another go today. The weather looked fine and I had nothing else planned (apart from the ironing).
I headed off to my local spot and straight away saw a Kingfisher sitting on a branch. I was sure that it was just teasing me and would fly off as soon as I got near, but no! Obviously Saint Canon EOS, patron saint of photographers smiled on me and allowed me to get a couple of shots of it rather than the usual shot of a birds bum as it disappeared into the distance.

7th December 2011 - Poole Steam Train
I happened to be working in Poole for a couple of days when I noticed that there was a steam train due to leave Poole on the morning I was there. My luck at getting a decent snap of a chuffer has not been the best so far and I feared the worst when I saw the weather forecast. Anyhow, the sun just managed to produce a little bit of light just as the train came past which was lucky.

2nd December - Plane spotting
As the forecast looked promising, I headed off to North Wales for a spot of Military Jet photography. Even though the jets did turn up, the light was pants (again)!
We spent the day stood on a hill in daylight that looked like night. The wind was cold and it rained.
